Crystal Lotus Design Path

posted: Saturday, 11 July 2026

My path to a finished project is never just a-to-z but instead jumps back-and-forth across many years and projects are always being developed as I come up with new variations and find the time to get them out of my brain, onto my bead map and then actually put in the world as a class or pattern etc.

One example is my Crystal Lotus project, which I'm teaching soon, but which actually began 25 years ago with me adding petals to bezels and, as I worked out the maths needed (explored in my book Geometric Beadwork Volume 2) and played with the concept I created my a Lotus Necklace (this featured in Beadwork magazine way back in 2012 and also Geometric Beadwork Volume 2).
Even as I beaded that I knew I wanted to add extra crystals to the petals, and create a stand, but it took me a decade to finish my samples and create the project as it stands today.

Crystal Lotus is an advanced beading project for a striking pendant/ ornament with its own specially designed stand. This is an advanced project (with preparation beading to be done before the 1st class but written instructions & online videos are provided) and participants must be comfortable with Peyote Stitch and small beads.

Full written instructions as well as online videos (which you can watch any time) are included for you so if you're not a virtual class person you never have to attend as you can watch the whole project being beaded whenever you wish.

A full requirements list will be sent when you book (including the details of the colours I used) but the general requirements are:

  • Size 11 Cylinder beads
  • Size 15 Miyuki seed beads
  • 27mm Crown Stone
  • 4mm Bicone crystals
  • Needle & thread

This 2-session class runs on Thursdays 13th & 27th August 2026 at a time more suitable for evening UK/ Europe and daytime North America and you can read more and book a spot here
