Quarratu Launches... Finally!

posted: Saturday, 11 May 2024

I used to show photos of my beadwork in progress but sadly that resulted in many of my projects being stolen during the long time it usually takes me to bead, re-bead, test, re-test, write the instructions, rewrite the instructions, test the instructions, rewrite the instructions etc... so I stopped doing it.

I realised it was a choice between stopping sharing photos or fast-forwarding projects through the long process which I hope makes my work more easily able to bead and understand. So obviously I chose to stop sharing photos.

Hence why although this project has been in progress since at least 2018 (the earliest photos I can easily find) it's only just launching now.

It began as a desire to use some of the small Bicones I had accumulated and quickly I had designed the bezel around a 14mm Rivoli and was even planning on it appearing in Rivoli Beadwork but the project kept growing to be too many pages (although Rivoli beadwork has a monumental 160+ pages this project would have taken up at least 45 of those which is a bit much.. and instead I concentrated on fitting in over 75 projects to the book).

So it got put aside as I concentrated on the book only for me to pick it up again a year or so later...

But then I had the bright idea of altering it and it eventually evolved into my Karratu Series which I have taught from 2020 onwards and in that time I've been very busy teaching and working on other projects.

But I always hoped to return to it and was glad at the end of 2023 to finally be able to (and then there was a panicked few weeks as I tried to find the bead packs which told me what colours of crystals I'd used as I hadn't beaded all of the bezels!).

As I returned to it the intended stand morphed, and then became reversible so it can be turned upside to and still be used to store a pair of earrings or smaller pendant in.. .and it also shrunk so there are 2 different size options.
