Today's theme for #MyBeadingYear is 'My favourite stitch or technique'.
I began beading 20 years ago with Brick Stitch and learnt Peyote Stitch just a few months later but spent many years doing, writing about & teaching a lot of wirework, chain maille, Viking weave and stringing.
There's very few stitches I really don't like (just Square Stitch as it's so boring!) and I like to play with all of them but my favourites are Herringbone, Cubic Right-Angle Weave (CRAW), bead embroidery (though I often go years without getting a chance to do it) and... the one which fits my brain and style of work most... Peyote Stitch.
I find Peyote Stitch endlessly versatile and I love that it can be as complicated or as simplistic as you want.
I especially love to pare it right down to create the type of unadorned geometric beadwork I love to do the most and became most know for such as my Stars and Triangle bangles etc.
