London Cocktail Week- Day 4

posted: Thursday, 14 October 2010

The fun of London Cocktail Week is still ongoing and today I headed off to Clerkenwell to an event put on by Hendricks gin.

For the week they have taken over an old petrol station premises and set up their travelling carriage of curiosities.

I had managed to get a ticket for the carriage and spent an enjoyable hour or so learning all about how gin is made, the different types of stills that can be used and how they can affect the flavour of the drink.

We also managed to fit in a spot of sampling (not really me though- I was heading off to skate later) which included some 80% gin, some of which was actually drinkable!

It was very interesting to learn too that the brand, which I had assumed was an old one, actually only launched in the last ten years but the look and marketing is so good you would assume it was much older.

It's so convincing they have found themselves in films set in past eras as the bottle just looks like it belongs there!

One of the treats of the event was the chance to see and sample a very mythical item: Battersea cordial.

I'm a huge fan of strong flavours and this quinine flavoured cordial,  which Hendricks are developing, really hit the spot. I do hope they continue with it and get it on sale soon.
