Creeping Progress

More work, more sun, more fun, more Kate and Gabriella- all exactly what I need.

Today begins with more illustrations but before I know it Kate and I are discussing the cover of our book and the discussion turns into playing bits of paper, examing all the many different pieces of jewellery which are going to feature, debating fonts, colours, punctuation and spacing.

The discussion, practical mock-ups and digitial experiments continue all day with just a break for sun and swimming. Well, I swam...

Even though it's ridiculously hot here, because the pool isn't heated,it's not quite as tempting as it would be later in the year. Still tempting but maybe not for everyone. But being made of strong stuff I would think nothing of dipping at least my toes into the English Channel at this time of year and so putting my whole body into one little, tempting, blue, alluring pool doesn't seem a step too far. But judging by Kate and Gabriella's reaction maybe it is? But my fear of getting frostbite is over-ridden by my worry that what if I went all the way home without getting in and realised too late that it would have been fine? Imagine how annoyed I would be at that thought, and how it would taunt me as I looked out of my window at my stupid, dark, English pool-less garden.

Then add in the fact that the weather forecast is for the temperature to drop overnight, so today may be the best day to do it, and in the end I decided there was no option but to get in. And you know what, once my skin, lungs and entire body stopped complaining and got used to the idea, and the temperature, it was fine. Lovely even. I adore being in water and swimming underneath with the sun glinting off the ripples, I was soon lost in the experience. Pehaps it was coloured by the realisation that once I got out I could lie in the 80+ degrees and defrost but honestly- once I'd ducked my head under I would have sworn the water was warm.

Swim over, I took the opportunity to dry off, warm-up, sample a cocktail from Kate and play with scary camera before it was back to the cover.

Our experiments continued and through a process of elimination, addition and fortuitous button clicking by Kate, I think we may just have found the perfect cover...
