Climbing Big Ben

I'm terrified of heights but try to not let it put me off doing anything (hence going to the top of the Eiffel Tower the other week) but when I discovered that you could climb up inside Big Ben to see the bells and walk behind the faces I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it...

After letting the nerves get the better of me for many months I finally did it today and I'm so glad I did; It's one of the most amazing things I've ever done!

The tour was cleverly planned out so as you climb the 224 steps you stop along the way to learn about the history of the tower and its renovation etc until before you know it you've done all the steps and are standing beside those legendary bells to hear the chimes that I must have heard thousands of times before. But this time I was standing a few feet away from them which was indescribable.

As you make your way slowly down you stop to walk behind the clock faces learning more as you go.

Afterwards you get the chance to visit the House of Commons and the House of Lords and watch both in action which was fascinating.

This truly was a day I'll never forget so if you ever get a chance to do it I urge you not to miss out.
