Antony Gormley At The Royal Academy

I got the chance yesterday to visit the incredible Antony Gormley exhibition at the Royal Academy and then to listen to him talk about the exhibition and his work.

The exhibition is truly incredible.

I've never been to an exhibition that causes such a visceral response (not strictly true, though it's not an exhibition visiting Antony Gormley's 'Another Place' also had a strong effect on me).

It's amazing how just a wire going from one room to another can cause fear and fool your senses so you can no longer trust your eyes. Judging by the number of people who walked through in the way that we did (avoiding going near certain things and ducking when you don't need to) it's a universal reaction.

The evening talk was enthralling and I realised I could listen to him talk about his work for days. He was not just knowledgable and incisive but also capable of speaking plainly and clearly about his work and his inspirations. You can watch the talk online here.

It was a powerful day.

Edited to add: We went on a quiet day for our first visit and then a busier day for your second and the difference in how it made you feel and how the attendees were reacting to the work was palpable so if you can I recommend a quieter time but above all I recommend you go.
