A downside to being self-employed, and working by yourself, is that there's no work Christmas do, so you have to make your own.
I was pondering what to do when a few days ago I discovered that St John Smithfield were launching a limited 'eccles cake stout' and a friend had a day off work. I knew it was too good to pass up the combination.
I love visiting this bar/ restaurant (I have never been in the full restaurant, only the amazing bar/ bakery section) as they have a varied array of food and drink and it's the perfect place to try different things and while away a few hours... and we certainly did today managing to stretch lunch out to nearly 5 hours!
After the delicious stout, and a bracing shot of Fernet Branca to get us started, we moved onto liver, various salads, smoked fish, an incredible egg mayonnaise sandwich and then the always great eccles cake & cheese to finish (plus a mince pie as it's nearly Christmas).
