Today is my parents' actual wedding anniversary and with a lot of us recovering from last night (my main injuries are a sore throat from laughing so much and torn shoulders and some sort of burst blood vessel in my hand from my clambering over the rope wall yesterday) a quieter day filled with food, sun and lazing around is what's required and what we get (obviously some people got up earlier than us and restored the house and gardens to normality but fortunately we missed that).
My mum has saved copies of her wedding invitation and all of the cards and telegrams they received for the day so it was fun to look through those, not just at the styles of cards but at the old familiar names from our pasts and the beauty of the hand-writing. I wonder if in 40 years time will people pass around hard-drives where we can all look at emails and reminisce in the same way? Will our language and use of text-speak and emoticons date the message? Maybe by then we'll all be communicating via brain-waves so any form of written communication will seem passe.
