Whoever invented Cornwall knew what they were doing.
It combines beautiful scenery with amazing sea views. Add in the expansive skyline and quality of light and I feel like I'm in heaven.
Of course I know I'm thinking that as someone on holiday who doesn't live here through the dark winters and would miss London's late-night restaurant etc as soon as I moved here, but still, let me dream.
Today we headed to one of my favourite spots in the world (after Hayle Towans): Porthleven.
We originally found the town whilst looking for a gallery with glasswork in it (now Tesserae) and everytime we come here I am as struck by its beauty as I was the first time. We pass the time looking in galleries, eating crab salad, watching seagulls steal food and venturing onto the coastal path (mainly to lie in the sun and watch others walk and cycle it) but my main joy is to just watch the sea and especially the waves as they hit the shore.
As we walk out on the pier I take a look back towards the town and see something that mesmerises me: the backs of the waves. I guess I have never seen them before (I'm not sure how I would unless I was a surfer or sailor) and am more used to seeing the front of them as they crash in front of me.
The backs of them are almost striped and look as though they are strata. My companion described them as looking like "stetchmarks, as though you stretched cling-film across the sea" which summed the look up. It look a long time to get a photo which showed it as the effect was fleeting, but mesmerising, once glimpsed.
The rest of my time in town was spend looking at the wonderful tower and wishing I lived in it. The thought of living in a tower is exciting enough, but add to that being able to wake up to the sound of the waves everyday and the expansive view you would get seals the deal for me. I want to live there so much.
