California 2016 - Day 5

It's my 4th day teaching at Creative Castle and today is the 1st day of a 2-day geometric beadwork class where I plan to cover everything I know about geometric beadwork - I'm not sure I'll fit it into just 2 days!

When I plan a class like this I imagine it like a circuitous railway journey. Everyone in the class has a ticket for the whole ride but can jump off at any stop they like and keep revisiting the same stop or get back on for the ride and jump off when they see a new stop that interests them.

Everyone leaves with the full instructions (just the essentials condensed to 31 pages!) and I spend the 2 days demonstrating and covering all the different aspects and can jump ahead or recap for each student as desired.

It's always fun to see what interests different people and where they take it. Some people want to do a bit of everything or at least watch all the demonstrations (the class covers all manners of increasing & decreasing, triangles, 2 types of squares, stars, pentagons, Rick-Racks, geometric flowers and much more). Whereas others stick to one area, and that can be something they decided beforehand or that catches their eye over the 2 days.

In class for the 2 days there's a very talented beader and artist, Amanda Clark Taylor and I am delighted to see some of her work in the flesh and get to spend time with her and being inspired by her use of colour and texture.
