Geocaching

One of my sisters, and her husband and gorgeous dog, stayed last night and today the conversation turned to the book Microadventures by Alistair Humphreys and then someone mentioned geocaching.

Before we knew it we'd looked up the nearest geocache and were on our way. Only to meet with disappointment as it was obvious roadworks had been done recently and the cache had been thrown away.

But, refusing to be defeated so easily, we set out for more and soon we were in a new place and park we'd never known before, despite living close to it for 15 years. It was really amazing to discover somewhere so beautiful and just by a busy main road and shopping centre. We'd never have known it was there without looking for a cache and in the end we had discovered a new treasure for us to savour.

Following coordinates and hints we'd soon discovered our first cache- and what a cache! The hider had gone to great lengths to hollow out a log and hide it away from prying eyes.

Buoyed up we looked for another one but sadly either our inexperience, or interference by non-gecachers, meant we couldn't complete the multi-part trail but we had fun walking for miles and seeing new places.

I think I have a new addiction...
