More Oscar Francis And More Memories

I wrote recently about the work produced by Oscar Francis. Once I'd discovered their work based on where I grew up I bought some more and last night we finally managed to hang them (hopefully straight).

From left to right they are:

I spent most of the first 5 years of my life living opposite the fire station, and a lot of the next 25 living near it and travelling past it.

It holds such fond memories for me with it's mysterious tower (it took years before I learnt it was for practising putting out fires) and terrifying hugh red doors that threatened to spring open at any moment.

The expanse in front of the fire station seemed so large when I was young and I would walk across it filled with terror in case those doors would fly open and I'm be run-over by a fire engine on its way to an emergency. It seemed like it took hours to complete the walk and I was always full of relief when we were back in the safety zone.
