Bibelots And Objet Trouve

On Wednesday I learnt the expression 'Objet trouve' which translates as 'found art' and fell in love with it- almost as much as I love the items themselves.

I learnt the expression at 2 Willow Road which is full of bits and pieces the owners had collected. Windowsills and sideboard tops were covered with small sculptures, painted rocks, sections of chain and even a temari which I was pleased to see. The expression, and the collection, reminded me of my 'Shelf of precious' which now looks very different following the purchase of my new medals.

Then this morning I got an email advertising 'Bibelots', a word I had never heard before. When I realised the email was advertising small brass sculptures and useful objects I knew the word had to mean something good and sure enough when I Googled it, the definitions I found were 'A small, decorative ornament or trinket' and 'A bauble, knickknack or trinket'. Don't they both sound perfect?

Does that make me a 'Bibelotphile'? Googling and finding this blog leads me to believe that's just what I am.

Are all of us beaders and jewellery makers bibelotphiles? Frequently when I teach beading the conversation turns to the beads themselves and our love for them. There's something about the beads that appeal to us that's beyond their potential, colour etc. We just like beads! How many of you love buying beads, choosing beads, organising your beads, looking at your beads? Well then I pronounce you a bibelotphile.

Since my recent colour post I have been busy taking photos of anything colourful I find in my house or on my travels. Some of the photos are shown here but you can find many more on my Colour Challenge blog.

I finally started my new project last night, and though I have many more I should be getting on with, this is the one that my mind and fingers were most itching to begin.

So far I know I want to use these fine bone china pots and the amazing large crystals but that's as far as my planning has got. I was going to make them very geometric, but now I'm not sure. I think I will wait and see how they develop over time.

I am also not sure about colours. I decided, I guess as a reaction to all the grey I have used recently, to go with brights, but now I have begun I'm not sure they will suit the china or the design so will rethink this ASAP.

That's if I ever get the bead count for the start figured out! I began with 70 beads- too small. Then moved up to 80- too large. Then tried 74- too large. So now I'm back at 70- again and waiting to see if it magically works this time.
