Escape to Portugal Day 1

posted: Sunday, 16 February 2014

Following the success of our half-of-the-family holiday last year, when we escaped to Malta for some sun to get us through the dark months, we've done it again this year but this time we've run away to Altura, Portugal.

We were unsure what the weather was going to be like but took a chance and waking up this morning to this view has been worth the trip already.

The main priority of the trip for me is to re-charge me batteries and get some much needed Vitamin D so lots of sitting around and 2 minute walks to the beach are planned- heaven.

Lunch was a trip to a local snack bar when we dined on peri-peri chicken and then feasted on the most delicious oranges. Oranges are everywhere here with the streets lined with orange trees tempting you to pluck them. And we do. They're the best oranges we've ever tasted. So full of juice you soon have it running down your chin and so sweet and flavourful I don't think any other oranges will ever match up.

After lunch, and some snoozing, my niece and I braved the sea. The sea temperature was apparently 13-15 degrees Celsius and surfers were advised to wear wetsuits and boots but we're tougher than that...
