More Herringbone Experimentation

I wrote yesterday about producing work to set criteria and here is another example of me doing that.

I've been asked to design a beading project for Beads and Beyond magazine's June 2012 issue and the brief I have to stick to is: colours inspired by the spice trail, 12 steps of between 25 and 50 words and assuming no prior knowledge. Not always easy, but I do love the challenge. It make sme think in a whole new way and really put a lot of thought into the projects and consider every step of the way the best way to explain them.

Previously when doing these projects I have stuck to reasonably simple ideas, but with practice I think I'm becoming much more adept at short descriptions, condensed but detailed instructions and hopefully explaining how to make something in the simplest way possible.

This project mixes spiralled herringbone rope, with additional beads, with a square stitch clasp cover- not so basic then! I've really enjoyed the colours and getting to use this gorgeous matte gold with reds and pinks has been a treat, as has working in nice large seed beads. Remind me again why I ever work in tiny cylinders?
