75 Colours

posted: Monday, 13 February 2012

It finally occurred to me today that this latest project will use somewhere between 66 and 75 colours, depending on the length I make it.

And boy am I loving choosing colours and changing every few rows!

I have a box with masses and masses of tubes and bags of beads in and as I work it's like diving my hand into a prism of colour and seeing what comes out. Sometimes I don't use the colour that I pick, mainly because it's too similar to the one it will sit next to, but most of the time I go with whatever appears.

I'm using blues, greens, purples, yellows, pinks... Almost anything apart from metal colours i.e. gold, copper, silver. I have so far sneaked one metallic bead in but I am determined that this piece will go against almost everything I made in 2011 and not be mainly comprised of metallics.

I'm hoping to get this piece made ASAP and my mind is still whirring as to what I will do to match it. Will I do exactly the same but using cream instead of black? Reverse the colour design with more black than colour? Make a whole piece using just one of the colours instead of the 60+?

Tonight we made a trip to the cinema to see a film which has been on my wish-list for a few years: The Room. All I really knew about it was that it's often billed as the worst film ever, and that seeing it is an interactive experiment with lots of audience participation. Words cannot express just how bad the film is, and how hilarious watching it in a cinema full of fans is. If you ever get a chance- go see The Room.
