Photographic Memories

The weather in the Uk is unbelievable. It's the start of October yet it's hotter than it's been all summer. Today I stayed in and worked but tomorrow I'm getting out there to enjoy it!

Ten years ago (20th August 2000 to be precise) I visited Dunstable Downs with family and ever since, on probably a weekly basis, I have thought about returning. I am the sort of person that, as much as I love visiting new places, I get probably more pleasure out of revisiting places. There's something about going back and re-seeing things that I adore.

I have really fond memories of visiting the Downs and always want to go back, walk on the hill and then sit on the grass admiring the view. The last time we visited there were crop circles in a field below (wonder if they ever solved the mystery?), glider planes soaring and the weather was great. Who wouldn't want to return?

One of my strongest memories was of my niece, who was then 18 months old, spotting an ice-cream van as soon as we arrived and asking for one. She was promised one and patiently waited all day as we dragged her on a walk up and down hills until finally she got her reward. The vision of her sitting on a stump eating an ice-cream almost as big as her head and relishing it will never leave me.

It's a long time since I had seen the photo and, in anticipation of visiting the Downs tomorrow, I rooted it out just to see if she looked as cute as I remembered. She did.

Whilst rooting I came across so many photos and had an enjoyable evening reminiscing and remembering.

I love this photo of my dad. There he is trying to relax and enjoy his Sunday out and in the background my sister and myself are doing our level-best to kill each other.

I have no memory of that, we did it many times a day, but I do strongly remember the events in the other photo taken the same day. My sister and myself were having a race and at one point she began to beat me. I was so upset at this chain of events I threw myself on the floor and cried hoping that it would like as though I had fallen and she had beaten me by chance. Fortunately my behaviour has improved somewhat but I bet I would still beat her in a race.

Apologies for the poor quality of the photo. Not only are these photos of very old photos but I have somehow manged to scratch the lens of my camera-aarrgghh!
