Great Missenden Day 2

posted: Monday, 08 August 2011

My latest week-long geometric beading class started yesterday afternoon and so far we have just looked at triangles and will continue to do so all day. If I had my way we'd spend all week doing triangles- all the possibilites are endless!

Whilst everyone in the class is triangle-ing away (as is Kate McKinnon as you can see on her glorious blog) I am also peyote-ing. I am using my new copper beads (which I am in love with) and making components for a new necklace.

This will be taught as a class next year at StitchnCraft Beads so I just need to get on and finish it so I can photograph it. I have worked out all the components, and both parts of the beading/ wirework clasp, it's just the actual doing that needs doing now.

Missenden is a beautiful building in lovely grounds. I have never taught here before and am loving it. Whenever I teach somewhere new I am never sure what to expect and each place has its own personality, traditions, time-table and vibe which is always interesting.

Here it feels as though we are in the middle of the countryside when actually we are in a small town which is in the middle of the countryside. A subtle but important difference to me. As I don't drive, when I teach at Earnley, which is in the middle of nowhere, I am tied to the venue which I love when I am there. I feel so isolated from real life and enjoy the fact I can't be distracted and feel separate from the world.

But this week at break or lunchtime I can spend a couple of minutes walking and I am in a highstreet with fun shops and if I look behind them I can see rolling fields.

Having the shops here is both a good and a bad thing. Good because I get to browse beautiful items and bad as I can see me going home with something...

So far I have managed to resist but I'm not sure I can last all week...
