Squeezing More In

Just when I think my brain is completely full and can't take any more (as evidenced by the amount of stuff that seems to be leaking out some days) I find new things to learn about.

I do wonder if I share more than the usual amount of DNA with a sea sponge (or even a microfibre cloth) as I seem never to be satisfied unless I am absorbing and consuming more and more. This is not always a good trait as I don't seem to always retain it, or even do anything useful with it. Oh well, maybe I am made of the same stuff as the temporary data storage in your computer and am not build for long-term use?

Just during my time in Tucson whole new areas to discover were opened to me and I am itching to learn more about them. In addition to all the other things I plan to learn all about of course...

First up Kate McKinnon introduced me to the Cthulu (and H.P. Lovecraft). I had heard of both before but know nothing about them so need to get a learning.

Then Teresa Sullivan told me all about Sarah Baartman (The Hottentot Venus). What an incredible story, how had I never heard of this before?I will of course be getitng a book on this as I am so baffled by the story and want to undertand more about what happened to her and her life.

Teresa also showed me a great book on Voodoo which I immediately bought as it's not just about voodoo and its history etc but also a practical guide to its practice and setting yourself up in the world.

I can never resist books or magazines which are about a world alien to me (as evidenced by my past reading of catering, toy soldier making, Barbie collecting, African-American hairstyling, horror film make-up and professional cake-decorating magazines to name just a few).

Also this book had the following review on Amazon by someone called Mambo Racind 'I am a famous and powerful Mambo living in Jacmel Haiti and I can honestly say that this book, along with Ross Heaven's VODOU SHAMAN have truly changed my life. I have learned things from both authors that I never knew existed. AYIBOBO! Praise be to both authors!'

How could anyone resist a book with such a glowing review? I wonder if it will change my life as much as it changed Mambo's?

Lastly Gabriella van Diepen had a copy of the excellent looking Hand/Eye Magazine which seemed stuffed full of articles I NEEDED to read and worlds I NEEDED to learn about so I immediately subscribed and my first copies arrived today.

Just in time to go onto the ever growing pile of reading I have developed over the past few months.

I'm starting to think I need to actually be disciplined and sit and read for at least an hour a day to at least give me some hope of catching up with it all.

Never mind the new scultpture evening course I have signed up for...
