Snow And Awards

I have a busy day planned today and begin it with a trip to my bead group to catch up on all the gossip and get some beading done.

My new chain has arrived so I am itching to bead a new version of my Geometric Secret pendants using larger beads and with a big crystal button hidden inside. After looking at the crystals I have I've decided to use one of my favourite colour combinations- brown and blue.

Over the course of the morning, snow starts falling and before we know it we have inches and inches of snow all around us. When we head off for lunch it soon became apparent that a lot of London had shut-down with airports, shopping centres and even roads closed- yikes.

After lunch we make our way back to the lovely street and venue where bead group is held (and also where I run my London classes) and everywhere is covered in beautiful looking snow and already three snowmen have been made. The afternoon is spent discussing the snow and plans for Christmas and getting on with some beading.

After bead group I have the Christmas party with my roller derby team and although it should only take around twenty minutes to get there from bead group, the travel chaos means it takes nearly two hours! If I wasn't carry heavy bags and so frightened of slipping on the snow I'd walk, but instead take public transport and settled in for the ride. But it was worth the trip. Not only do I get to enjoy a great party I also win two awards!

When I began roller derby it was so out of my comfort zone you can't imagine. I had never really done any sports and definitely never played a team sport. I was unfit and had never even roller skated. Add to that a general terror of falling over and looking stupid, this really wasn't the best way to spend my free time if I wanted to stay within my comfort zone!

But I had a dream of playing the game and persevered and stuck with it through bruises, injuries and stress at not taking to it and boy was it worth it. If you have something you really want to do- do it. You have no idea how much pleasure you can get out of something until you try it.
