Marilene Oliver

Today I am knocked out with a cold and throat infection but managed to get out of my bed for a cultural trip.

I first came across the work of Marilene Oliver in Wired magazine and was delighted to see that here was an artist unashamedly using beads in her work!

As soon as I knew she was exhibiting her work in London at the Beaux Arts Gallery I knew I had to visit.

Then when I discovered she would be there talking about her work today- well that was it, I was there!

I was pleased/ shocked to discover I was the only person there to hear her talk but it meant I had her all to myself.

I was treated to a personal tour around the work and was able to question and chat with Marilene about her pieces as well as her use of beads. I also discovered that in Rio, where she lives, a kilo of seed beads would cost the equivalent of 50p!

Marilene's work is beautiful and moving.

It was great to be able to see it up close and from every angle as well as hear first-hand the inspiration behind the pieces and also technical and personal information which made me look at it in a new way.

Marilene's work is in London until the 6th November so if you get a chance do visit it.

I will be doing something in the future with Marilene so keep an eye on my blog, and my newsletter, to find out more as soon as it's already.
