New York- Day 1

posted: Tuesday, 17 November 2009

My first day in New York City and it starts in the best way possible- I finally get to meet Suzanne Golden!

I first came across Suzanne's wonderful work back in 2002 and was immediately blown away. As someone who up til then had only really seen beaded amulet purses it was a revelation- I never knew beading could be like that- and I wanted in.

I then got to see Suzanne in person when I visited the Bead & Button show back in 2006- but was far too in awe to speak to her- I just admired from afar.

So you can imagine my delight when in January 2008 she first contacted me about my work.

Fast forward 22 months and I finally get to meet her and see her wonderful work in person- worth flying all this way!

We begin the day with a visit to the Museum of Art and Design to see their current exhibitions. Some fanatastic paper-based art work and a great jewellery collection.

Next, a vist to the wonderful Lee's Art Shop where we spent a long time browsing and buying. I was delighted to find the rubber I need to make some more stamps after my class last week at The Make Lounge. I also bought some more colour wheels and carving tools.

Next up a visit to Kate's Paperie for more browsing and shopping. Here I indulged in a lovely metal and bead mistletoe set, matryoshka measuring cups and fun stickers.

Lastly it was on to Pasha restaurant for grilled feta cheese, lamb on roasted aubergine and poached apricots stuffed with cheese and nuts.

Note this is actually only my second ever appearance on the blog- my cover is blown!
