Shapes And Sounds

Busy day today with both a Valerie Hector class and a concert in London.

My day began with beading some of the Chinese beadwork shapes Valerie uses in her work. I had done some of this work a few years ago but since then have been concentrating mainly on my geometric work using delicas so hadn't done any for a while- so it was nice to get back into it.

I found it really interesting as it combines a lot of the work I have done on my Geometric Series of work with the the reading, investigating and experiments I have been doing on things such as platonic solids- but with big beads so it's all a lot quicker!

I started by beading a 120 bead sphere in which I put a plato bead before sewing the two halves together. I then beaded a vase shape and from that I began thinking of shapes I had already beaded in my work and beaded an icosahedron.

Valerie encouraged us to all experiment and I came up with a wheel shape which I realy liked and think I will play around with some more. When I was beading it I was realising just how many variations were possible with just that one shape.

Unfortunately I had to leave early but it was worth it for the concert I went to at The Roundhouse

The 'group' we saw were some members of what was the BBC Radiophonic workshop so it was an evening spent listening to some strange 'music' a lot of which was basically TV theme tunes and continuity music- not my idea of music at all! But they were so enthusiastic about their subject I couldn't help but enjoy the evening.
