Kyle, Tamales And Millards

The day starts with more beading before we head off to the airport to pick up Kyle Cassidy.

I've never met Kyle before, but have read his blog, seen his work and followed his Tweets and am excited he is going to be taking some photos for our book.

With Kyle on board our first stop is the Little Cafe Poca Cosa for a delicious lunch where the subject of Presidential Dollars arose. Before I knew it we were in a local bank and it was unlike any experience I've ever had in a bank before. To start with it was big, spacious and light and the staff weren't locked away behind bulletproof glass. And there were more than enough staff. As soon as we walked in people were offering to help and when Kate asked if they had any Millard Filmore dollars they said they were on their way to their vault and would check. The next thing someone offered us a bottle of water and the security guard asked us if we wanted any literature on the artwork. I thought I was having an out-of-body experience.

In London when you travel on public transport it's taken for granted that only two types of people will talk to you: the mentally ill and Americans. If someone does talk to you there's a split second panic whilst you listen for an accent, and then relief when you realise they're just visiting and don't understand our etiquette of pretending everyone around us doesn't exisit.

All fed, and with enough customer service to get me through the rest of 2012, we headed home and Kyle began taking photos.

I have been brave this trip and decided to pack what I now simply call 'scary camera' and this seemed an appropriate time to start using it. I genuinely have absolutely no idea about photography but want to learn and figured the best way is to throw myself in and see what happens.
