New Years Eve 2011

What better way to ring in a new year than with good food, drink, company and a burlesque variety show?

Tonight we're at the lovely Roundhouse to eat dinner and see the show La Soiree. I saw the show a few years ago and loved it so am looking forward to seeing the new ensemble.

First up is dinner at Made In Camden where the food, atmosphere and drinks were fab. I will definitely be back.

Then it was on with the show. The Roundhouse is a beautiful venue which used to be a shed used for turning around trains (you can read all about it here) and its architecture still remains a delight to see.

The show was amazing: equally parts funny, jaw-dropping, beautiful, haunting, scary and awe-inspiring.

Before we knew it the show was over and it was time to head home and ring in the new year standing in the street watching all the incredible fireworks displays going off all around us. Welcome 2012 and all you bring.

On the way to and from our evening out I began reading a book written by Aimee Crocker who I wrote about previously. I'm only a few pages in and already she's been married a few times, seduced by a bullfighter (and many others) survived a shark attack and a train crash, been hypnotised and led astray by a hideous dwarf (her words, not mine), travelled the world, become princess of an island and too many other things to mention. I cannot recommend her book highly enough. She is hilarious, sometimes intentionally though often not, rude, completely self-assured, shockingly racist, grandiose, patronising and too many other adjectives for my brain to contain. What a woman.
