Teaching 3D Triangles

Off to Cambridge today to teach the Newmarket bead group all about beading 3D triangles. The main focus of the class will be making these beaded beads but I'm hoping to explore Geometric 3-4-1 and its variations with them too.

It's very wintry when I set out at 7am but soon I'm there, unpacked and the day gets started. It's a mixed group with some people more experienced than others and some who have only recently started beading. One lady, Lia Melia, came when I taught my geometric beadwork as a class over two consecutive weekends back in March 2008 (wow- was it really that long ago?!?) and kindly brought in some of the work she has done since then to show me. Very impressively all of this is done in minute size 15 Delicas. Ever since these beads appeared on the scene I have been meaning to remake some of my geometric work with them but just couldn't bear to spend all that time doing it and driving myself mad. So it was a real treat to get to see just how good it looks that size. Now I am tempted to actually do some. eas well as .

As the day progresses everyone finishes at least one beaded bead and some even create a set of them and start on a bangle. During the class I repliacet one of the beaded beads using size 11 seed beads and the different is very noticable. Not only is the work a lot floppier but the size has changed so much with the seed bead version at least 30% later than that done in Delicas.

I'll be teaching these triangles in Egypt soon so need to get on with making a finished piece to show.
