New York 2011- Day 10

posted: Friday, 18 November 2011

Still tired today so another late start before heading off to eat lunch and wander The High line.

Lunch is at The Fig & Olive where we ate lots of fresh, healthy food before indulging in a sharing plate dessert which included: dessert crostini (with amarena Cherry, mascarpone & pistachio shortbread with micro-basil), marzipan Cake (with live oil gelato, candied orange olive oil & toasted almonds), raspberry sorbet (with lemon yogurt mousse & crunchy meringue) and crunchy praline. Oh and a Fig & walnut julep (14 Bourbon, St.Germain, Port, muddled black mission figs, mint and fresh citrus garnished with shaved walnuts) So I'm guessing the whole thing evenly balanced out health-wise. Maybe.

Then it was on for our walk. The last two days there has been lots of rain here, but the weather today is perfect. There's a distinct chill in the air but it's bright and slightly breezy so we're all wrapped up and ready to walk. I've been fortunate enough to visit the High Line twice before, and really enjoyed it, but back in June this year section 2 (between w.20th and w.30th st) opened so there's a whole new 10 blocks for me to see.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit The High Line I can't recommend it highly enough. The views of the architecture are worth the trip alone, but add to that the feeling of being in another world, high above the city and the pleasure of taking some time out to simply walk and enjoy the scenery is unmatched.

After we left the High Line we discovered this 'Hope sign' on w.20th and, as I stood and read some of the hopes people had written, I was reminded just how thankful I am for my life.
