New York 2010- Day 9

posted: Friday, 19 November 2010

Today is my last full-day in New York and we try and fit in as much as we can.

The day begins with a cross-town bus over to "Museum Mile" and a trip to the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum.

There was much to see in the museum but a highlight was the exhibition of Lobmeyr Glass and the shop full of design classics and unusual items.

(If you like the look of the glass check out this fascinating article on a exhibition of Lobmeyr glass during Vienna Design week 2008)

From there we walked down Fifth Avenue to the Guggenheim Museum to marvel at the architecture.

From there we went to Bloomingdales and attempted to visit Roosevelt Island on the Aerial Tramway only to discover it was closed until the end of November.

Oh well, a good excuse for a return visit...

Then it was onto the Brooklyn Bridge for a nice walk with amazing views forward towards Brooklyn, back towards Manhttan and to the right to Governor's, Ellis and Liberty Islands. We managed to time it just right (more luck than planning) and crossed the bridge as the sun was setting and the city lights were coming on.

Lastly it was back home to pack for teaching over the weekend and heading home on Monday.
