Hidden Herringbone

A great project to experiment with size, shape and colour.

This easily beaded herringbone rope hides a secret - the clasp is hidden amongst the beadwork so the necklace can be turned around with any chosen section being the front.

This 7-page tutorial contains all the diagrams, photos and tips and tricks you'll need to create your own colourful version.

All tutorials contain full instructions and tips as well as check lists for all tools, materials and techniques needed to help you shop and plan.

Materials:

  • An assortment of beads such as size 11 seed beads, cubes, triangles, fire-polished, hexes, rounds, rice beads…
  • A length of satin cord
  • A strong magnetic clasp – not too large

A basic knowledge of ladder and herringbone stitch is needed.

A more basic version of these instructions appeared in issue 22 of Bead magazine
