Making Our Way Home

Sadly our time away has come to an end and it's time to head home.

The weather has been so mild and lovely recently that it's hard to even believe we're in the midst of winter. But all that changed whilst on our journey home.

Just as we were almost at the Eurotunnel to head back to England the heavens opened and a snow and hail storm appeared from nowhere covering all around us in inches of snow and ice before we knew what had hit us. Add in thunder and lightening above our heads and it was looking very scary.

Traffic ground to a halt as people got stuck on the hill we were on and emergency vehicles tried to make their way through to help.

After a long time of not moving we began to consider that we may be sleeping in the car for the night and were glad to realise that through coincidence more than anything we had a car full of petrol and bottles of water and food.

Finally traffic began inching along again but as we watched cars spin on the ice and slide all over it wasn't looking very safe.

Then thankfully the heavens opened again but this time with pouring rain which was so strong it melted all the snow and ice and through it was hard to see we could at least move again.

Five minutes later all the snow and ice had vanished and we were at the Eurotunnel as though nothing had ever happened.
