New York 2013- Day 4

posted: Monday, 20 May 2013

My not taking photos has continued today with me only managing to snap one photo all day. I had plenty of opportunity but was so caught up in the moment I forgot to take any. I guess that's a sign of a good day.

The day began with looking for somewhere to have breakfast. We were originally planning on a diner for a ridiculous meal of carbs but it was so hot we couldn't face it. Then I remembered that whilst looking for a diner I had seen somewhere close by, Mark Burger, that did Guinness milkshakes...and with the day being so hot surely a milkshake was what was required...?

It was that thinking that found us the place we would return to most days of the trip as the food was so good, the staff so friendly and the guinness, whether milkshake or regular, went down a treat. The menu was small and based around sliders, which I had always turned my nose up at before as I thought they were just small burgers and I'm not too big a fan of burgers, but I was oh so wrong. These were extra special, cooked in front of you and beyond compare.

Fully fed and watered we headed back to the apartment to escape the heat for a bit whilst I beaded before heading out in the evening to meet a friend who was over from the UK to do a course. This friend, who I know from roller derby, is not only an expert in fashion and copyright law (you can imagine the conversation we had about the recent copyright kerfuffle...) but runs a very informative, and often very funny, blog all about fashion law: Wigs and Gowns.

We met up at Stix for some food, which was nice but marred by the fact they seemed to have an insect problem and our legs were bitten to pieces, and then headed onto Milk & Honey for an evening of cocktail enjoyment combined with conversation that traversed copyright, roller derby, Irish parents, weddings, tattoos and many more topics before we had to call it a night.
