Viajante times 17

Tonight is the real reason we're here- a 12-course tasting menu at Viajante. When we visited recently for the cocktail tasting we got to try some of the food and loved it so it was just a matter of when we'd return, not if.

We made sure not to eat all afternoon so we could cope with the 12 course (17 if you include the amuse bouche and bread etc) and boy was it worth it.

Not only was the food amazing but the whole experience was spectacular. The kitchen is completely open to the restaurant and the staff work almost silently and as though fully choreographed right in front of you preparing plates of amazement. It was like an exotic theatre production with tastebud tingling food and drink as an added bonus.

It was a blind-tasting, so until a plate of food was presented we had no idea what we would be getting which made it exciting, though a bit weird a few times as I struggled to hear what was being said and merrily bit into things thinking they were one thing when they were another...nothing bad just unexpected. In fact nothing at all was bad- the complete opposite- each and every dish tasted as though it was a specially condensed version of the flavours it contained. Concentrated and fresh flavours wowed us from start to finish and the added bonus we'd ordered of some cocktails to go with it just made the evening.

With the cooks so close, and the restaurant so small, it felt weird to take photos- plus I was far too busy eating and discussing what we were eating to take any photos after the first couple of courses- sorry but it was too good to photograph!
