A Treat For All Your Senses

An unexpected day off today as my class was cancelled due to the weather, so I decided to make the most of it and have some time out in London.

My plan was visit the Pop Life exhibit at the Tate Modern before it finishes next week.

On the way there from the station we took a detour through Borough Market which was bustling with people out buying food and drink. The market is well worth a visit, even just to experience the wide range of olfactory delights as you wander around.

But it was far too cold to hang around so we headed off to the warmth to eat instead.

As soon as we reached the Tate we went to visit the turbine hall and got a big surprise.

The last time we visited, the art work in the hall was a large crack in the ground and there was much speculation at the time as to whether it was real or if they had installed a raised floor with the crack in.

It seemed incredible that they had purposefully cracked the floor but from the large "scar" snaking its way across the floor it was obvious this time that that was exactly what they had done.

The piece in the hall this time was a unique exerience. It's a large metal box you enter up a slope with no lights on inside so you soon can't see more than a few inches in front of you.

Very disorientating.

Fortunately I stopped walking before I hit the fabric covered wall but not everyone seemed to!

Once you turned around and looked out, it was very light and welcoming looking, the exact opposite of what you had just experienced.

After that fun we headed off to the exhibition where we got to see some more of Jeff Koons' work (this time it was a lot more explicit than what we saw last year!)

Afterwards we headed home- just in time to be frozen and covered in snow again.
